Lincoln Douglas Value Debate
Resolved: Rationalism should be valued above empiricism.
Similar to the renowned debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, in this style of debate one competitor affirms the resolution and the other negates it, creating a clash of competing desirable values. There are six rounds in a tournament, and debaters will affirm the resolution three rounds and negate the resolution three rounds.
Team Policy Debate
Resolved: The United States Federal Government should significantly reform its domestic transportation policy implemented by the Department of Transportation.
In this style of debate, teams of two either affirm or negate a resolution that calls for a change in political policy. One team of two debaters affirms the resolution, while another team of two debaters negates the resolution. There are six rounds in a tournament, and teams will affirm the resolution three rounds and negate the resolution three rounds.
